A Birthday Gun
A birthday is an interesting event in your life. Is it something to celebrate or be sad about? A mile marker or a countdown? If you want to take away some of the sting from another year past, you should try to commemorate it with a new gun. For the first time today I had a customer come to the shop to pick up his birthday present that his WIFE picked out for him all the while keeping it a complete secret. Go ahead and applaud a female who will buy a pistol for her man. By the way, you should know that she is not a shooter, and actually...

Today was spent helping several families recover from total losses. I don’t know what I learned today, except that flood insurance is a great idea. Without it, you won’t get any help from your insurance company. It is great to see our church and community backing each other up. In fact our church is going to be a Red Cross relief center for the end of the week. If you need a hot meal and shower you can come by. If you are local please spread the word. Check out MicroExplosion’s post today for a cool post and...

The last two days have been crazy. We received 18 inches of rain! 2 out of 3 interstates were closed in the city. Houses were destroyed, and many lives were forever changed by the flood of 2010. I want to thank you for your support and prayers during these times. Our shop, home and family are all safe, as are any items we have in our possession right now for custom work. The only casualty of this mess was my cell phone. Please email me if you need anything. We will be behind on work for about 3-4 days. It is not because we were...

I want to preface what I am about to say by mentioning that I don’t own a gun store. I run a customization business, so I am not against Big Box stores because they hurt my business. They do hurt the shooting community in many ways, but they can also be beneficial. I was at a Big Box store this week with several friends. While I was perusing the gun stuff I overheard a sales associate trying to answer a customer’s question about the difference between double and single action firearms. The associate was not very clear, and...
read moreKydex Holsters and Heat
If you have a Kydex holster (who doesn’t anymore), you have a solid platform that will hold up well compared to many of the other nylon and leather options out there. They don’t scuff, or need to be babied. You can beat the living daylights out of them. In many ways they are far superior to anything else on the market. Except in one. Don’t leave the newer versions in your hot car. Many companies have found that thinner kydex works great and conceals well too. They also have created a problem in the summer with people...

One of my friends was kind enough to let me check out his new MTAC holster made by Minotaur, distributed through Comp-Tac. The MTAC is an IWB holster that a hybrid of leather and Kydex. This sets it apart from most other IWB holsters that are made from either one the other of the two materials. IWB is the single most concealed option if you want to take advantage of your belt in your CCW system. Many attribute the IWB to the famous holster maker Milt Sparks whose Summer Special is a classic. The obvious benefits are the concealability and...

Last weekend I had the opportunity to meet up with Gilbert Perez to do a little shooting. Gilbert is a USPSA competitor who has one the fastest draws around. We were standing at 12 yards shooting 8″ plates on a rack. The drill was to draw and fire one shot on a plate as fast as possible. My best time (actually hitting the plate) was 1.39 seconds. Gilbert consistently was around .80 which included an accurate shot. Check out this video and notice the draw and then the mag changes....
read moreTactical Polos
Spring has arrived in Nashville after a long winter that seemed like it didn’t want to end. We have seen those wonderful days that start to call for a short sleeved shirt. My regular attire for the rest of the summer will include some sort of Polo shirt so I thought I would give you my thoughts on Tactical Polos that are available today. We requested shirts from 5.11, Woolrich Elite, Blackhawk! and Eotac. We received shirts from everyone except Eotac. It may appear at first glance that all Tactical Polos are generally the same. ...

A friend of mine came by the other night to pick up a really cool gun that he had ordered, and he dropped me a surprise; The Art of the Dynamic Handgun, by Magpul Industries. It’s a 4 DVD set that follows Travis Haley and Chris Costa as they teach the Handgun Course to a group of shooters. The first thing that I want to say about these DVDs is that they are some of the best produced gun DVDs I have ever seen. Most gun DVDs look like they were shot at a range with a handycam. You just don’t get what you pay for in many cases. ...

I just completed my U.S. Census for this year. I encourage all of you to be good citizens and do the same. I actually completed it as soon as it arrived because I was dying to know if there was a gun question on there as many of you have written me asking about that. There was nothing more than who lived where and what were there ages. They didn’t ask any other questions about my personal life, which leads me to tell you this: I hate the Internet. I hate gun forums. I hate people who promote these lies and waste your time. So many...
