Ruger SR9 Recall

Ruger SR9 Recall

Below you will find a recall that Ruger has issued. I received this yesterday from the Tennessee Instant Check Division. I have also heard from another TN dealer that they had an SR9 go full auto at the range. Please pay attention to this and follow all instructions below if your gun falls in this category. Sturm Ruger has stated: “We have determined that some Ruger SR9 pistols manufactured between October 2007 and April 2008 can, under certain conditions, fire if dropped with their manual safeties in the “off” or...

Walther P22

Walther P22

This past week I had the opportunity to shoot a Walther P22. I have very limited time with Walther products, but they seem to be well made and perform well. Everything with gun functioned flawlessly and it shot to point of impact. What made it special was that it was fitted with a suppressor. I have shot a few guns with suppressors, and it’s not always what you think. It is very rarely like the movies. I remember shooting a suppressor of questionable quality that really didn’t live up to the hype. Buying one for you 22lr will make...

Nashville Gun Show

Posted by admin on Apr 7, 2008 in Just Whatever | 0 comments

Saturday I attended a gun show at the TN State Fairgrounds in Nashville, TN. When I go I am generally looking for older collectible firearms, and any type of memorabilia. Unfortunately I didn’t find much of either that was all that interesting. What I did see was plenty of people walking around not buying a whole lot. Maybe it’s because it’s so hard to find anything from our distributors right now. I have had two sales walk out of the shop because no one could fill the orders for me. The interesting thing is that there were...

Why Does My 1911 Trigger Feel Better?

Posted by admin on Apr 3, 2008 in 1911, Glock, Gunsmithing | 2 comments

Why Does My 1911 Trigger Feel Better?

One of the questions that we get asked a lot is why the Glock trigger doesn’t feel as good as a 1911? The short answer is that the two systems are fundamentally different and cannot produce anything close to one another. Think apple and orange juice. Both juices, not the same. 1911 and Glock. Both have triggers, not the same. So what’s the difference? The Glock is striker fired. In the animation you can see the striker being moved during the trigger pull. What you don’t see is the trigger bar in contact with the connector on...

Here is the animation of the Colt 1911. Notice again from the beginning the trigger movement. You should be able to see the sear and hammer. This is one major difference between the 1911 and Glock. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H3IFJXxyEs&hl=en]

Animation of the Glock's Function

Posted by mossycreekcustom on Mar 30, 2008 in Glock, Videos | 2 comments

In upcoming posts I will be discussing the difference between 1911’s and Glocks. This post and the one on Wednesday will show you animations of both guns, and I will have some pictures and commentary on Friday. Hopefully that will give you a better understanding of both weapons systems. This animaiton will help you understand how the Glock works during its firing cycle. It starts slow with the trigger pull so focus there. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPPgmvcsJNw&hl=en]

The Tactical Vest?

The Tactical Vest?

The other day I was at an outdoors store with a friend when I noticed something that really deserves a tactical award. Many of you are familiar with the 5.11 line of tactical clothing. They make some really great stuff, including a vest that many IDPA competitors are wearing. Good for IDPA, bad for a day at the mall. What amazes me about these vests is how many people feel like they are great concealment garments for every day life. If you are wearing this out and about you are screaming GUN!! at the top of your lungs, beside the fact that...

Think You're Fast?

Posted by mossycreekcustom on Mar 26, 2008 in Videos | 0 comments

If you are into competitive shooting, you know how a fast reload often makes the difference between 1st and 2nd place. Check out Travis as he reloads. Incidentally he is a AMU (Army Marksmanship Unit) shooter. When you load like this, it really helps. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ls4Uq1aCiTA]
