It appears that Ruger has a new offering in the defensive pistol market. Called the LCP (light compact pistol), it’s a 380 designed for deep concealment or a backup. It carries a suggested retail price of $330. It has a sight channel with a front sight. Capacity is 6 rounds.
We have not had our hands on this yet, but pistols like this serve a great purpose for the person who wants to carry during the summer months. Everyone has struggled with how to carry their 1911 off duty or during the warmer months where a jacket isn’t really acceptable.
It looks surprisingly similar to the Kel-Tec P-3AT, which my administrative assistant recently purchased because it was one of the few semi-autos that she could manipulate the slide manually. She shot it over the weekend and loved it. So maybe there is a place for these little guns in your favorite lady’s purse, as well as your pocket.
I like Ruger pistols, but I recently purchased a SR9 and ended up having to take it back due to really bad jamming. First time shooting – about 10 jams in 4 magazines. Took it home, polished and cleaned all parts – 2nd range visit – jammed on every 2nd or 3rd shot. It left a bad taste for Rugers.
I do own a Ruger P345 and Love it. It’s a sweet shooting pistol; but like I said, the SR9 left me “gun shy”.
I still like the Ruger a Lot, but I’ll have to look at used ones before purchasing one again,,,,, or maybe not…:D
Sorry to hear about your luck with the SR9. That is really disappointing. I own one Ruger now, but have owned several in the past. They generally have a great reputation for being reliable, but it sounds like they haven’t worked out the kinks yet. Massad Ayoob references problems with the mag release in the latest issue of Guns. As time goes on, they should be able to remedy any problems like that, but it doesn’t really matter to the guy who just bought one that doesn’t run.

I’ll go back to a Ruger again. There are lemons in all of them out there. I don’t think the SR9 is a crappy pistol – I just think the one I bought was.. :))
